It will soon be time to travel into the woods. I invite you to come along and to enjoy some of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s greatest work.
Into the Woods combines the well-known fairy tales of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Little Red Riding Hood with the story of the Baker and his Wife who desperately want a child.
Unfortunately, the couple is childless because of a curse placed upon them by a witch. The husband and wife undertake various missions involving the characters in the other fairy tales to break the spell.
What must they do? The Baker and his Wife must bring the witch a cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn, and a slipper as pure as gold. After a series of failed attempts, the Baker and his Wife are successful and break the spell.
The other characters, as well, accomplish their goals, only to learn about the pitfalls of greed and gluttony. Finally, the characters learn about the need for community and family when they must unite to fight against the wife of the giant Jack killed, who has decided to come back for revenge.
There are parts for a diverse group of female and male actors. Most parts require at least a minimal amount of singing.
There will be some limited choreography. Auditions are June 14 and 15, 2015.
I encourage everyone to be involved in some capacity whether it be on stage, backstage, costuming or tech.
